A Little About Cubic Zirconia

June 02, 2017 2 min read

Cubic zirconia is a modern, sensible choice for bridal jewelry. Jewelry crafted with Cz stones is not "costume" jewelry, as glass- or acrylic-stones jewelry is. Cubic zirconia stones are made to an exacting standard, are very close in hardness and refraction to diamonds, and can only be told apart from diamonds by an expert. Yet Cz jewelry is a much more affordable, and therefore, budget-friendly alternative to diamonds for all your bridal jewelry needs. You sacrifice none of the beauty, the quality...or the bling.

Cubic zirconia has been on the market since 1976. CZ is made by mixing two powdered metals together, zirconium and zirconium dioxide together, then heating them to almost 5000 degrees Fahrenheit. By contrast, diamonds are a natural resource that must be mined, which brings up concerns about environmental depletion, fair worker treatment, and importation from foreign countries, since there is only one active diamond mine in America. By contrast, CZ can be cleanly and safely made close to its distribution point.Cubic zirconia is a synthetic material--man-made--and is much harder and more durable than people realize. On the Mohs scale of hardness, where a diamond is a 10, a Cz is an 8.5. Plus, the level of refraction of light is striking similar as well-- 2.15 to 2.18 to diamond's 2.42-- and clear CZ stones are much more affordable, clear diamonds being so rare.

CZ stones can be colored to mimic any color of diamond, such as canary, pink, or chocolate. So in choosing a tiara, bracelet, or even ring in CZ, you are getting much more value for your money, getting all the options you desire--clarity, color--and losing nothing in the process for your special day.
